The results of the USA Today Reader’s Choice award for best Arts District are in. We would like to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your day to vote. We successfully defended our title! Enjoy this photo tour through the District by photographer Lisa Roy.

The California Building is home to 6 floors of art studios occupied by about 100 artists. Peyton Scott Russell’s Daskarone sculpture is located near Mojo Coffee Gallery. Regularly open to the public for Second Saturdays, during Art-A-Whirl® and the Fall open studio event.

 

The Casket Arts Building is home to about 140 artists. Located at 17th & Jefferson. Three studio buildings are a part of this complex, Casket Arts, Carriage House, and the Factory. Regularly open to the public for Second Saturdays, during Art-A-Whirl® and the Fall open studio event.

 

The Grain Belt brand used to occupy several buildings at the end of 13th Avenue to the west of Marshall Street. Above is the main building, home to RSP Architects and American Craft Council. The Bottling House and the Warehouse (not pictured, to the north of the main building) combine nearly 130,000 square feet of space for artists and creative businesses. The Bottling House boasts a large atrium that is used exclusively for arts-related events.

 

The Northrup King Building, under its familiar water tower, is home to more than 350 tenants, including 300 artists and various small business and nonprofit organizations. Regularly open to the public on First Thursdays, Saturdays, and during Art-A-Whirl® and the Fall open studio event.

 

Holland Arts East, located at 22nd Avenue NE and Washington Street NE. One of two buildings in the campus, both open for special events and by appointment.

The Q.arma Building in Northeast Minneapolis is home to over 25 artists, located at 1224 Quincy St NE. One of the longest-running occupants of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District – since before it was an arts district.

 

Solar Arts Building – home to about 20 artists, open for events such as First Thursdays and Art-A-Whirl®, Fall Open Studios and select Saturdays. Its historic charm has been preserved, while upgrades have been made to be more environmentally friendly, including the addition of 109 solar panels on the rooftop to power the creativity of the artists in the building. The Northeast Chamber of Commerce honored the Solar Arts Building as the Arts Ambassador during the 2023 Celebrate Northeast! Parade June 20.

 

The Ritz Theater, Built in 1926 for a mere $45,000. Current home to Theater Latté Da.

 

Established in 1999, the Rogue Buddha Gallery is an award winning contemporary art gallery anchored in the heart of the Northeast Arts District in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The “brunch” sign is for Northeast Social.

 

Mary Johnson‘s sculpture, Max Rabitat is located across from the California Building next to the California Street Urban Farm.

Sheridan Memorial Park – Veterans memorial sculpture created by local artist Robert Smart, located behind the Grain Belt complex along the Mississippi River.
