University of MN graduate student Kenny Niemeyer will use his GIS (Geographic Information System) skills to help the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District’s Land Trust Task Force catalog arts spaces, industrial uses and businesses in the Arts District, and meet with arts and industrial building owners.
Niemeyer is in his second year at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, concentrating in housing policy and environmental planning. His undergrad degree is in global studies (environment and sustainable development) with a minor in urban studies (international urban issues).
He studied in Shanghai during academic year 2018-2019, focused on the Shikumen housing stock. At half-time with us for the summer, he will continue also in his role of connecting U of M and Hennepin County leaders through the Hennepin-University Partnership.
Locally, Kenny was a summer volunteer coordinator at the Water Bar & Public Studio in 2019, and has played guitar in a band at Mojo Coffee. He was an Americorps volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
He’s looking forward to biking around the district and learning more.
