We Dance for our MMIW

Dimensions 20” x 16” x 2”
Medium: Beads, Acrylic on Canvas

We Dance for our MMIW is a depiction of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s movement. This piece showcases a woman in traditional jingle dress regalia. This dress is known as a dress for healing while the red hand over the mouth is the symbol of the MMIW movement. This piece is mainly acrylic on canvas with the pieces of her regalia being hand beaded onto the canvas. The colors of her beaded regalia are the colors of the medicine wheel, another item indigenous peoples use for healing and guidance. This piece is a call for healing to all missing and murdered indigenous women and girls as well as their family and friends that are all impacted by the loss of our Ikwe (women in Ojibwe).

Dimensions 15” x 10” x 2”

Manidoominensikaan means ‘an item of bead work’ in the Ojibwe language.
This piece is painted dot by dot and bead by bead in depiction of traditional Ojibwe floral designs.

Ojibwe peoples are known for their floral beadwork designs, as a respect towards mother nature. The patterns of the flowers are usually symmetrical in design and displayed on a black background.
