Devastate

Dimensions 22″ x 26″
Medium: Glass, Acrylic Paint, Gravel, Spray Adhesive, Stone Textured Spray, Spray Paint

For this art piece, Devastate was heavily inspired by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii, 79 AD. One of my passions when creating is finding ways to incorporate human history into my practice. Using just one moment in time, I aim to break things down from a complex situation into an elegant display through mixed media art.

During my creative process, the original frame was very damaged. I made the artistic decision to include small amounts of gravel to the outer layer and spray paint it a rich, metallic gold. This way it serves as a compliment to the narrative of a regal city succumbing to complete devastation.
