Have you ever attended an art opening and wished more people could see the excellent work that you discovered, but seems like a well-kept secret? Or had your own art event that only your friends came by?
It’s easier to promote someone else than it is to toot your own horn…at least, that seems to be a thing in Minnesota. And it’s wonderful when you get someone else’s endorsement. Those are principles behind Art Hounds.
“From Minnesota Public Radio News, Art Hounds are members of the Minnesota arts community who look beyond their own work to highlight what’s exciting in local art,” their website explains.
To be an Art Hound, you tape record a segment well in advance of an event, promoting something that you are not directly involved in or related to, and send it in to MPR. See https://www.mprnews.org/arts/art-hounds
So think ahead, collaborate with friends to exchange promotions. The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District would appreciate anyone mentioning the #1 Arts District designation of USA Today 10Best Readers Choice Travel Awards when you do promote events happening in the district.
Anyone with a fun or instructive anecdote about their experiences as an Art Hound or being promoted by one, please share with the Arts District’s leadership at info@northeastminneapolisartsdistrict.org
