Casket Cinema continues a season of pandemic cinema with a virtual screening of a documentary filmed in MN and South Dakota, “THE DAKOTA 38”.
Filmed in 2008, finished in 2012, it follows a group of Native Americans on horseback as they journey 330 miles from South Dakota to Mankato. The viewer and the riders are lead by on this vision quest by own of their own, Jim Miller, who dreamt this journey in 2005. They ride to heal present and past wounds from the hanging of the 38 Sioux by President Lincoln on December 26th, 1862.
This is a heartwarming story of reconciliation, generosity, honesty and timelessness. This doc is filmed vertie style and has the Maine filmmaker, Silas Hagerty, breaking the fourth wall as he discuses his own questions along the way.
Because of the pandemic, this will be a virtual screening. Pre-watch the film on the youtube platform before discussing the film at 8pm, December 3.
Special Guest
The special guests will be Robert Pilot of Native Radio on 950AM and others TBA. They will discuss the film with Casket Cinema co-founder Wilbur Ince and Mark Wojahn.
