We are half way though the daily voting for the best arts district competition. We are currently in 3rd place in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards. Last time we were nominated, we won this award (2015). It was accomplished with a dedicated artist community of 800 artists and friends voting daily. Today we estimate we have 1200 artists in the Arts District, so our chances should be higher. But to accomplish this feat again we will have to harness our best asset, our collective power of focusing on an issue to move the dial from # 3 to #1.

Each person can vote once a day for the run of the contest, which ends Monday, April 26.

Why is this important?
We are at a moment of forces trying push artists out for other purposes. Winning an award like Best Arts District gives our arts community leverage to push back and say we deserve the city’s support for our efforts at being the best. Our greatest power is our density of artists’ voices to say what we want, who we are and what we want to become.

The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District (NE-AD) is officially designated as an Arts District by the City of Minneapolis. NE-AD’s Board of Directors was established in 2014 and merged December 30, 2020 with Northeast Community Development Corporation.
