2020 is starting off with a bang for the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District (NE-AD). You will notice our new newsletter format. We are working to create a better experience for our readers. Right out of the gate the NE-AD board is co-sponsoring a political forum on January 13th for Diane Loeffler’s state house seat. Rep. Loeffler, who passed away in November, had been a persistent advocate for the NE arts community and an early proponent for creating an art center in the District. It is important that whoever takes her seat is dedicated to build on her legacy as part of their platform.

The Arts District is transforming in many ways. The NE-AD board has already started a dialog with Artspace, the new owner of the Northrup King Building, as they maintain and develop the rest of the NKB site.
|
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport accepted the NE-AD proposal to curate a display of District artists work. For the next two years, NE artists will showcase their work to international visitors and local travelers and promote NE-AD as an arts destination.
|
|
Our new program ART365 is up and running. It is a great opportunity for Arts District artists to capitalize on those tourists wanting to know what to visit when they are in town. There will be many big moments to come in 2020. We are looking forward to the challenges and telling the stories of the artists who work in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.

City Leaders Honor Noted Mpls Artist Aldo Moroni

Mayor Jacob Frey and the City Council celebrated artist Aldo Moroni with an honorary resolution on December 13th at the City Council meeting. Moroni, who faces terminal cancer, has been a fixture in the Minneapolis arts community since the early 1970s. The HATCH committee of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District is pleased to announce the successful submittal of a proposal for multiple exhibits at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Twelve candidates have filed for election to fill the 60A Minnesota House of Representatives seat that is open due to Diane Loeffler’s passing. 2020 SNO Ball to Benefit Northeast Arts District

Sheridan Neighborhood Organization has made a great gesture of support for the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Its semi-annual fundraiser SNO Ball has historically raised money for neighborhood improvements, as well as for local nonprofit organizations.
