Arts District News

November 1, 2023 - Issue 148

Dear reader,
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the local community and greater metro area arts community members who attended the 4th edition of the Vision Awards. Over 150 people attended October 2 at the Ritz Theater. This event is a major component of the Arts District’s mission, to be able to recognize the contributions of individuals who work to help others.

Since 2015 there have been seventeen awards made. One of the Arts Districts board’s core beliefs is that our community's major strengths are artists and community members sharing time, energy and ideas to help others succeed. We believe no one succeeds on their own; Family, teachers and friends are always necessary to help individuals stand out and push boundaries of self-discovery and success.

Each of these award winners possessed a passion and drive to solve problems for the greater good of the artists and the overall arts community. All these visionaries past and present have made a difference in tens of thousands of people’s careers and lives. They have helped the art community continue to realize its full potential. We look forward to meeting and recognizing more visionaries in the coming years.

Imagine what the city of Minneapolis could do if the equivalent of a professional football star's salary were dedicated to the arts. That’s $10 million. In the current mayor’s budget, which is up for a public hearing November 1 and again in early December, arts is barely mentioned. It shows up under Economic Inclusion and Recovery with $1.3 million …
