Dear reader,
Tyre Nichols’ death by police in Memphis Tennessee underscores again the issues with police overreach, violence and coverup around the country. Artists speak through their art to raise awareness and action about people of color being abused by people in power. This work was going on before the May 2020 murder of George Floyd, its aftermath and the convictions of the four police officers, but his death accelerated worldwide attention and society has not yet been able to turn the tide. These problems are deeply embedded in our laws and culture. We started researching an article about White Bear Center for the Arts before Tyre Nichols death and present their example in this newsletter. We will perceive setbacks, disappointments, anger…and we must continue to show our commitment to justice and human rights.

The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District (NE-AD) is officially designated as an Arts District by the City of Minneapolis. NE-AD’s Board of Directors was established in 2014 and merged December 30, 2020 with Northeast Community Development Corporation.
