Thanks for everyone’s help in winning “Best Arts District” in the USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards. You were an integral part to winning this award. While it is easy for some to dismiss polls as frivolous, think of this one instead as an opportunity to coalesce a community around an idea and focus on the task at hand. Community engagement is Northeast Minneapolis Arts District’s super power. Our community is 1,200+ strong, and an informed, dedicated arts-loving and networked community showed up to participate.

We showcase this power when art spaces are at risk of poorly-conceived development. Artists play a major role in city elections. The art community is there to show our respect to art pioneers in our community who have given so much to others. The Arts District board and others have been persistent that the arts be at the table at city council decisions about the arts.

Now, many city officials and staff contact the Arts District to advise, inviting participation in specific topics where they know the arts community can guide them. When the business community wants to know how to engage with artists, all the art organizations are available to be consulted.

Based on statistics from the Creative Index reports produced by the City of
Minneapolis Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy the Twin Cities and Minneapolis in general have been in the top six arts communities in the country for a decade…more testament of our developed and engaged artists and community members. We have much more to accomplish and this award provides another leverage point to state our case for our relevance in the entire city, state, region, country and internationally.

Thanks again for your continued support!
