Twelve candidates have filed for election to fill the 60A Minnesota House of Representatives seat that is open due to Diane Loeffler’s passing. Partnering with neighborhood groups, the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District is planning a forum to help inform voters prior to the Tuesday, Jan. 21 primary.

The forum will be held at Solar Arts by Chowgirls (3rd Floor), 711 15 th Ave. NE. Monday, Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Doors open at 5:30. Margo Ashmore of the Northeaster newspaper will moderate.

Rep. Loeffler was a steadfast advocate for arts and listened to constituents individually and at the neighborhood level. It’s with that in mind that this forum will focus on arts and neighborhoods.

All candidates have been invited, and we’ll update our Facebook event as we hear from those who will attend. Help inform what questions will be asked by posting on the Facebook event, or sending them to Margo via email.

Candidates will be encouraged to socialize with the audience afterwards so individuals can get their additional questions answered.

As only two political parties are represented in the election, there will only be two candidates left after the primary going into the general election date Tuesday, Feb. 4, one from the DFL and one from the Legal Marijuana Now party.
There are other forums and meet-and-greets planned by other groups. The Northeaster newspaper plans an article introducing the candidates. The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District board encourages all citizens of District 60A to become informed in as many ways as possible prior to voting.

State legislators are responsible for laws and funding relating to many things that affect everyday life: Housing, school funding, transit, health care, environment and climate action, for example. The 2020 session is a bonding year in which state monies are allocated to building and infrastructure projects.
