All the articles in our newsletter are created with the Post system in WordPress, not the Page system.

Notes

Why? Because Posts are presented in a time sequence, latest first.

Home Page

A function on the Home page automatically replaces the 6 articles from last month with the newly published articles.

Notes

At present, only Remo can adjust the number of articles that show up on the home page.

Access Settings Column

Normally, when editing a post you will see a Settings column on the right. It has two tabs: Post and Block.

If you don’t see a right column, click the Settings icon next to the blue save button.

Set Featured Image

The image that shows up on the home page, is called the featured image. To upload the featured image, look in the right column under the Post tab. You will see the Set featured image button.

It must be a horizontal image.

If you do not see the Set featured image button, click the Post tab.

Excerpt

The excerpt is used in two places: on the home page under the title and again on the newsletter email.

The purpose of the excerpt is to capture the reader’s interest enough to click the Read more button.

I will copy this text to the newsletter builder along with the featured image.

Excerpt Example

In the past I have just copied the first paragraph of the article and edited it down to make it work as an excerpt. For an example. This is the first paragraph of the Jodi Reeb article:

Jodi Reeb, an artist based in the Carriage House at the Casket Arts building, recently concluded her solo exhibition “Landscapes Exposed” at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota. The show featured 40 mixed media works, combining encaustic painting and photo collage. Reeb’s photographs, focusing on pollinator-friendly plants, are captured from “a bee’s perspective” and printed on tissue paper before being embedded in beeswax. Her work aims to raise awareness about how we can support pollinators, emphasizing the importance of preserving habitats for bees and other insects.

Here is a reasonable excerpt:

Jodi Reeb recently concluded her solo exhibition “Landscapes Exposed” at St. Mary’s University in Winona. Reeb’s work, focusing on pollinator-friendly plants, are captured from “a bee’s perspective” and printed on tissue paper before being embedded in beeswax. Her work aims…

Article Links

The links in the article are important to our readers. We try to create links for every artist listed.

When you highlight a word or phrase, you will see a link option. Click it to enter the URL to the page.

Notes

Very important! All links must open in a new tab so that people do not leave our website accidentally.

Once a link is created, click it and choose the pencil icon. Choose Open in new tab and Save.

Elementor

Elementor is a very powerful plugin that was necessary before WordPress invented the Block editor. This website uses Elementor for most of it’s pages, but not Posts.

Important!

Don’t click the Edit with Elementor button. If you do, you may have to start over with your article.

Images & Captions

Because many people read web pages from their phones it has become necessary to simplify page design. All images should be added to your article inline, no flush left or right.

To add a caption to you image, click the image and choose the Add caption icon […].

Also, click the image and choose the Align icon, then choose Align center.

Design Conventions

Titles
Only the first letter of a title is capitalized unless it’s a proper name or word.

Writer Acknowledgement
At top of page, under title, in normal text size and bold.

Caption Acknowledgement
Title, by Artist’s Name, photo by Photographer’s Name

This will probably change as discuss style changes at our face to face meetings. At least this is a start and what we are doing presently.
