About the Image:
This sculpture evokes both a suitcase and a coffin, symbolizing migration and loss. Filled with objects from my family history, it reflects on the experience of leaving one’s homeland and the essential items one might carry into an uncertain future.
About the Artist:
Holly Streekstra explores wonder, mystery, and human consciousness through video, sound, movement, installation, and object-making. Engaging history and memory, she has exhibited at SooVAC, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, and Franconia Sculpture Park. A 2016 Jerome Fellow and 2013 Fulbright Scholar, she holds an MFA from LSU and a BFA from the University of Minnesota.
